1964 Buick Electra 225 Super Wildcat Convertible

Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1964 Buick Electric 225 Super Wildcat Convertible. Believed to be one of only six Electra convertibles ordered with the high performance 425 cubic inch "Super Wildcat" V8 fed by two four-barrel carburetors, this is an exceptionally rare car that has been restored to a concours standard.

The Electra 225 was Buick's top-of-the-line offering at the time, and 1964 was the first year for the three-speed Turbo-Hydramatic 400 automatic transmission (a big upgrade from the two-speed Dynaflow). A 401 cubic inch "Nailhead" V8 was standard equipment; the Wildcat 465 (so named due to its 465 lb-ft of torque) came standard in the Riviera and was optional for the Wildcat and Electra models. But only a handful of the most performance-oriented buyers selected the Super Wildcat option, outfitted with dual quads.

This example is finished in correct Wedgewood Blue with a navy blue canvas top and black leather interior. Panels are laser straight with good gaps and the chrome has been restored to a better-than-factory standard. Whitewall radials on gorgeous wire wheels are a nice finishing touch. Interior presents well with excellent carpet, seat upholstery, door panels, dash, steering wheel and interior trim. Canvas top is in like-new condition with a clear rear window, and the power convertible top mechanism works smoothly. Glass is likewise excellent with all power windows working as they should. The original AM/FM radio remains in the dash but a modern CD stereo is discreetly hidden in the glove box with controls located in the ash tray.

Under the hood is the original numbers-matching code "KX" 425 cubic inch Super Wildcat V8 fitted from the factory with dual quads and mated to a THM400 three-speed automatic transmission. Optioned with power steering and power brakes, this Buick is well tuned and starts easily hot or cold (and it drives great). It runs smoothly and idles quietly but offers plenty of power on demand.
