1970 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible 4-speed

Motorcar studio is pleased to offer this 1970 Chevrolet Corvette convertible. This C3 is a numbers-matching car with impeccable records and known history to new. And although it was never allowed to deteriorate beyond normal wear and tear, it saw a frame-off restoration that was completed in 2015 to a very nice standard.

Clyde, as this car is affectionately known, was ordered by a young lady in Memphis, Tennessee. She kept Clyde until 1989 and accrued nearly 120,000 miles -- making trips all over the Southeast during her two decades of ownership. The second owner (here in Georgia) drove the car sparingly for a few years until ultimately embarking on a professional, frame-off restoration that took several years and finished in 2015.

The restoration was completed with an eye towards correctness, aided by photographs dating back to the original purchase, the original sales order form, a partial build sheet, and correspondence with the original owner. The body and paint quality are excellent -- likely better than factory -- and the original color of Bridgehampton Blue was retained. Options include a standard 350ci V8, four-speed, power steering, posi-traction, AM/FM radio, and a luggage carrier. Only the luggage carrier was not retained during the restoration -- the car is otherwise presented as it was delivered new.

Virtually every mechanical system was professionally overhauled during the restoration including engine, suspension, brake, rear-end, axle, clutch and power steering rebuilds -- it's been driven fewer than 1,000 miles since completion. This example runs and drives great with everything working as it should; the car has a very "put-together" feel about it.

A well-organized binder features numerous photos of Clyde with the original owner on her travels as well as the original sales order, the cancelled check that she wrote for the purchase, original registrations, a signed letter from John Delorean (then general manager of Chevrolet) congratulating her on her purchase, partial build sheet, extensive service records dating to the early 1970s, protect-o-plate with warranty book, Corvette owners club membership card, original owners manual, restoration photos and restoration invoices and correspondence with the original owner.

An optional factory hardtop is included with the sale; it has been partially disassembled and will need to be restored. This is a beautiful example of a Stingray convertible that drives as good as it looks, and with fantastic history and documentation like none other we have seen.
