1979 Volkswagen Super Beetle Convertible
Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1979 Volkswagen Beetle Convertible. This Beetle is a case study in preservation, with only 18,000 original miles (it has remained with the same Savannah, Georgia, owner since 1981, who bought it in California). Finished in Mars Red with a white convertible top and black interior, condition inside and out is everything you would expect for a garage-kept, well-maintained and very low mileage example. Paint meter readings indicate completely original paint except for the left rear fender (both the color and finish match are excellent). Solid and original underside with no known rust issues. Even the convertible top is original and remains in good condition. Bumpers, glass, trim and lenses are all in excellent shape, as well.
Interior presents very nicely with original carpets, seat upholstery, door panels, steering wheel and crack-free dash. This Beetle was never equipped with a radio (a radio was a dealer-installed option, and was not listed on original the bill of sale). The factory radio blank plate in the dash and the rubber plug for the antenna on the front left fender have never been removed. The seat padding was replaced a few years ago but the upholstery shop was able to reuse the original upholstery. The speedometer, indicator lights and all external lights are working properly.
The 1.6 liter air-cooled four-cylinder engine starts easily and runs well; the factory fuel injection is completely intact and working properly. Four-speed manual transmission shifts well (and as expected given the mileage, there are no crunchy synchros). Recent service includes a fuel pump, relay and pressure regulator, new shocks, new brake master cylinder, front brake drums and wheel cylinders, tune up and valve adjustment. It feels very tight and "put together" as a low-mileage example should.
The original window sticker, purchase invoice, owner's manual and service book are included with the sale. This is easily the most original and unmolested Beetle we've seen in person -- and all service is fully up to date. It runs and drives well thanks to 42 years under single ownership.
