1968 International Harvester Scout 800

Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1968 International Harvester Scout 800, an attractive driver finished in Aspen Green with a white hard top. The first-generation Scout was introduced in 1960 as part of International Harvester's Light Line of passenger trucks; the format proved popular and many say that Ford borrowed liberally from IH's design for the Early Bronco which debuted in 1966.

This Scout is fitted with a desirable V8 engine and a four-speed manual transmission, which is rare for a first-gen Scout (most of the early trucks were equipped with a four cylinder and three speed and are decidedly tractor-like in their driving dynamics). Body is straight with no known rust. Original steel wheels with hubcaps are wearing 235/75R15 all terrain tires.

No-nonsense interior is equipped with factory low-back bucket seats clad in black vinyl upholstery. We've always appreciated the simplicity of the steel door panels and dash of these early Scouts. Floors are rhino-lined for all-weather durability (so it's no problem if it gets rained in with the top off).

Under the hood is International Harvester's 266 cubic inch V8, which has the same basic architecture and shares many parts with the 304 introduced the next year for the 800A (and which carried over to the Scout II). The engine starts easily and runs very smoothly, and it's mated to a four-speed manual transmission plus four-wheel drive (with a factory twin-stick shifter for the transfer case).
