1976 International Harvester Scout II LS3

Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1976 International Scout II, which has just 5,000 miles on a fully-documented frame-off restoration completed by The Scoutman in 2020. Powered by a 6.2 liter GM Performance crate engine (an LS3 rated at nearly 500 horsepower) mated to a 4L70-E overdrive automatic transmission, the modern drivetrain totally transforms this Scout and makes it suitable for daily use.

Finished in Fuji White, paint quality is excellent over a very straight and rust-free body -- and with only 5,000 garage-kept miles, it still looks crisp and clean throughout with no flaws to note. Exterior upgrades and accessories include a custom front bumper with a Warn 8,000 lb winch and driving lights, GRC rear bumper with swing-away tire carrier and hi-lift jack, SSII-style grille and tailgate insert, matte black trim, LED lighting and a full soft top. 17-inch Mickey Thompson matte black alloy wheels are wearing 305/65R17 BF Goodrich mud terrains (roughly equivalent to 33x12 outside dimensions). As this was a frame-off restoration, the frame was fully treated and powder coated and all body bushings were replaced. It's very tidy underneath with no rust.

Interior presents nicely with custom plaid seat upholstery on OEM high-back bucket seats. Roll bar with three-point seat belts. Locking center console with front and rear cup holders. Floors have been rhino-lined for all-weather durability. Custom dash with Autometer Phantom II gauge set. High fidelity stereo system with Sony AV head unit paired with JL Audio amp, speakers and sub (there's a backup camera integrated into the rear bumper which displays on the screen when in reverse). All new air conditioning setup with a Sanden compressor running R134a keeps the cabin nice and cool. A set of deep bucket Corbeau racing seats is also included with the sale.

As great as this Scout looks inside and out, where it really shines is under the hood thanks to a GM Performance crate engine -- the 6.2 liter (376 cubic inches) LS3 V8 features modern engine management and fuel injection and makes a whopping 495 horsepower and 473 ft-lb of torque. It pairs nicely with the 4L70-E overdrive automatic transmission and a Dana 300 transfer case. Dana 44 front and rear axles with 4.56 gears (rear is limited slip). The steering, suspension and braking systems have all been upgraded to account for the high-performance drivetrain: hydroboost brakes with front and rear disk assure confident stops; the front axle was cut and turned for improved steering geometry; Fox Performance shocks front and rear with new leaf springs provide excellent damping and extended wheel travel; all steering linkages and bushings were replaced. The Magnaflow dual exhaust allows the engine to breathe and it sounds great.

We personally appreciate the simple, uncluttered look of this truck finished in high-gloss Fuji White -- but a variety of period-correct vinyl applique stripe packages are readily available should next owner want a more retro-inspired look (for design inspiration, see photos of other white Scouts with graphics packages installed). We are happy to consult with design and installation, of course.

This is a great looking Scout, and with the modern drivetrain, AC, stereo and suspension upgrades, it's a truck you can actually drive on the highway and press into daily service. It's a blast to drive with plenty of power. If you're considering commissioning an LS-swapped Scout, then you are aware of the extended lead time and very high price to restore a truck to this specification -- or you may own this one today at a considerable discount over the cost to build one.
