1972 Ford LTD Convertible
Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this stunning 1972 Ford LTD Convertible, a highly-optioned and nicely-restored example with cold A/C. Owned by a retired Ford Motor Company executive in Atlanta, prior to his purchase it was a long-term California car restored by the Lincoln dealership in San Diego, Witt Lincoln. All exterior chrome was removed and re-chromed. The paint was stripped to bare metal and a couple of minor dents were repaired in the process (but there was no rust). The car was then repainted with three coats of Ford Black paint. The result is an exceptionally straight and slick car with a miles-deep finish -- no small feat for such a large car in black!
The interior presents beautifully with a crack-free dash and nice seats, carpets and door panels. All switches, gauges, lights and indicators are working properly with the exception of the clock and the horn. Original Philco AM/FM stereo works. New convertible top in black canvas works perfectly (it just had new hydraulics).
As the top-of-the-line Ford offering in the early 1970s (and largest, too) the LTD received luxury features usually reserved for Lincoln. This car has every option that was available from Ford in 1972, including automatic transmission, factory A/C (which is blowing ice cold), power steering and power brakes, power windows, power seat, tilt, cruise, turbine wheel covers, cornering lamps and dual side mirrors (with remote).
Under the hood is a big-block 429 cubic inch V8 that received a top-end rebuild in 2018. Drivetrain is completely stock aside from Pertronix electronic ignition and a newer stainless steel exhaust. We believe the mileage, at 49k, is original, and this car runs and drives just like a low-mileage example should -- it's quiet, smooth and comfortable. Steering is precise with no vibrations, and the brakes also work well with firm stops and no pulling.
If you're in the market for a full-size, four-seat classic American convertible, this one bears a closer look -- this is the kind of car that can be purchased with little fear of having to spend a lot of money on numerous repairs because it is in such good shape (plus, the engine runs fine on regular unleaded fuel).
