1986 Mercedes-Benz 560SL Roadster
Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1986 Mercedes-Benz 560 SL, a well-maintained and well-sorted example with thousands spent on recent service. Very attractive in triple black, a rare and desirable color combination for a 107. Clean CarFax with no accidents; we believe the paint to be original and it shows well with only a few minor flaws. This is a southern car with no known rust issues (see underside photos). Both tops in good condition. The factory wheels are showing some patina but they are wearing new Michelins.
The interior shows well with leather seats in great shape; nice steering wheel, carpet, door panels, dash and wood with only minor wear. Original Becker Grand Prix stereo has been restored and retrofitted with bluetooth in lieu of the cassette function (inserting any cassette tape trips a microswitch that turns on the bluetooth channel). A/C has been converted to R134a and is blowing cold.
The R107 is an exceptionally well-built car that will run forever as long as you keep throwing money at it. But now that the newest 560SL is 30 years old, even low-mileage examples often have deferred maintenance needs simply due to age. So it's important to find a car will a well-documented and recent service history. This is that car.
The current owner has spent over $15,000 with a local Mercedes-Benz specialist during his ownership (and a cross-country move to a new home without a garage is the only reason it's being offered for sale now). Over the last two years, the car has received a new radiator, transmission mount, subframe mounts, battery, fuel accumulator, vacuum pump (for the central locking system) and more. Steering and suspension works includes a new power steering pump and hoses, steering gearbox, drag link, tie rods, idler arm bushings, steering coupler and ball joints. The A/C system has been fully serviced with new hoses and a rebuild compressor.
Runs and drives well -- it's comfortable, quiet, smooth and powerful just like a well-sorted 560SL should be. Books, tools, records, cover and a hard top stand accompany the sale.
