1949 Mercedes-Benz 170S

Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1949 Mercedes-Benz 170S sedan. After WWII, Mercedes was able to salvage enough tooling to resume production of its W136 line of vehicles and they became the company's top selling models. In 1949 they built on the success of the 170V and introduced the 170S (special) model. The 170S was longer, wider and better appointed than the 170V and it received a revised M136 engine, now good for 52hp and a top speed of 122 km/h.

This example was long part of a collection in Europe; it was restored to a nice standard in Germany in 2007 before moving to Greece and then coming to the U.S. The Light Yellow (a lovely shade of cream) paint remains in very good condition over an excellent body. Trim, brightwork, chrome and rubbers are in excellent refurbished condition. The interior is trimmed in appropriate materials and finished to a high standard. Glass is excellent and shows the correct “Swiss Durex” stampings.

This 170S runs and drives well (see video) and the flathead four-cylinder makes adequate power. It's mated to a smooth fully-synchronized four-speed transmission. The semaphore turn signals are still functional and a nice touch. This Mercedes offers great value as one surely couldn't be restored to this standard for the asking price - plus it retains the desirable pre-war Daimler-Benz styling that draws attention at shows and touring events alike. Service records, jack, matching spare and warning triangle are included.
