1928 Chevrolet Truck

Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1928 Chevrolet Capitol Express 1-ton pickup truck. Introduced in 1927 in both car and truck versions, the Capitol was far more advanced than the Ford Model T -- in fact, competition from GM is what led Ford to cease production of the Model T and introduce the all-new Model A in 1928. Chevrolet took full advantage of Ford's production gap in while retooling for the Model A -- in 1927, Chevrolet was the best-selling vehicle in America for the first time (although Ford overtook Chevy in '28).

This example is an older restoration that has held up well. Finished in green and black, the steel frame and body panels are solid with no known rust. The body is framed in wood, and is likewise structurally sound. The bed is made of solid oak and looks great. Gorgeous wood wheels are wearing 6-20 period correct truck tires. Nice, original wood steering wheel.

Under the hood is Chevrolet's 171 cubic inch overhead valve-in-head four cylinder engine (Ford was still using a a flathead / sidevalve configuration). Featuring a clutch with a three-speed manual transmission with a floor shifter, it's considerably easier to drive than the old pedal-operated planetary transmission from the Model T. This Chevy starts, runs and drives remarkably well (especially considering that it's more than 90 years old).
