1987 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Aerocoupe

Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1987 Chevrolet SS Monte Carlo Aerocoupe. No ordinary Monte Carlo, the Aerocoupe was introduced in 1986 as a homologation car. Ford's new aerodynamic Thunderbird was threatening Chevrolet's dominance in the NASCAR Winston Cup series; the raked rear window of the Aerocoupe lowered the drag coefficient just enough to make it more competitive. Dale Earnhardt won the 1986 and 1987 Winston Cup in an Aerocoupe, earning the nickname "The Count of Monte Carlo."

This example, finished in black over burgundy interior, shows just 57,000 original miles. Paint and body show well with straight panels and good gaps. Clean CarFax with no accidents. A southern car with a very clean and original undercarriage (see photos). Interior is all original and has held up well -- the tops of the door panels have faded slightly but interior surfaces are otherwise excellent. Original Delco stereo works great. Air conditioning has been converted to R-134a and is blowing cold. It presents as a correct and unmolested example both inside and out.

Under the hood is a high-output 305 cubic inch V8 mated to a automatic transmission with overdrive. Performance is sprightly and the car feels tight, put-together and rattle-free -- a testament to its low mileage. It certainly checks the right boxes for the collector-enthusiast who actually wants something to drive -- a low-production, NASCAR homologation car with classic 1980s styling, all in an affordable package with modern comforts such as cold A/C and a good stereo.
