1972 Chevrolet Corvette

Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1972 Chevrolet Corvette, a four-speed manual coupe with a numbers-matching 350 cubic inch V8. Finished in attractive Targa Blue Metallic over a black interior, this C3 has been owned by the same family since 1985. The paint shows to a driver standard and there are minor imperfections throughout but no significant damage (see close-up photos of the paint, which show minor checking and crazing -- these images are representative of the whole car). It's still a beautiful 'Vette and quite presentable despite some patina. 1972 was the final year with both front and rear chrome bumpers.

We believe the interior to be all original and it has held up remarkably well. Seat upholstery, door panels, dash, steering wheel, carpet and t-tops are all in good condition. Completely stock aside from updated AM/FM/cassette stereo. All gauges are working except for the fuel gauge.

The original Chevy 350 was rebuilt in 1996 (with complete records) fewer than 5,000 miles ago. In 1997, the A/C system was fully rebuilt. In 2000 the car saw a full steering and suspension overhaul including a new rear leaf spring, new front coil springs, rebuilt trailing arms, new ball joints, rebuilt steering box and all new steering linkages and bushings. In 2002 the car received a new water pump and rebuilt front brakes.

This C3 starts and runs beautifully and the engine, clutch and gearbox all feel great (engine sounds healthy and pulls strong, clutch take-up is not too high and there's no chatter or slippage, shift linkage is tight with no slop, and the sychnros in the gearbox itself feel good with no crunchiness). Likewise the suspension and steering feel tight and responsive due to the low mileage on all of the components. But the brakes are soft, A/C is not currently blowing cold, windshield wipers don't work, and the tires are old. The car is certainly drivable as is (see video), but it has only seen about 1,000 miles over the last 15 years so it will need some attention before being driven regularly.

Given the documented rebuild on a numbers-matching engine, long-term ownership history and how good the bones are, it's a great candidate for a "light freshening" in the hands of the right owner -- and the car is being offered at a price which takes its minor needs into account.
