1973 Porsche 911E Targa
Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1973 Porsche 911E Targa. Finished in the original shade of code 700 Black, this car was repainted under prior ownership about eight years ago, has been garage kept since, and still looks nearly flawless. All trim was recently restored under present ownership and is like-new condition. 15-inch Fuchs wheels have been professionally refinished and are wearing Yokohama tires with 2021 date codes. H4 headlights provide excellent nighttime visibility and are supplemented by driving lights mounted through the horn grilles. Both the Targa bar and the Targa top itself have been restored with all new (and correct) materials and seals. Excellent glass, rubber and lenses. 911S front bumper; earlier-style chrome-sided rear bumperettes. Solid floor pans, rockers, front pan and torsion bar areas with no known rust.
Interior likewise presents very nicely with a crack-free dash, excellent door panels (with all pockets intact), a restored leather-wrapped steering wheel, and sport seats with pepita houndstooth inserts. All gauges have been restored and are working properly, including the clock. New seat belts. An AM/FM Blaupunkt radio is mounted in the dash. The original owner's manual and service book are in the glove box; originally sold in New York, by 1978 this 911 made its way to Amelia Island, Florida, and was maintained at Brumos in Jacksonville through the late 1970s and early 1980s.
The 2.4 liter flat six is fed by its original mechanical fuel injection system and has been upgraded with Carrera-style timing chain tensioners. The engine was rebuilt under prior ownership and is mated to a type 915 five-speed manual transmission. Both the engine and transmission numbers are correct for a '73 911E. Clutch, shift linkage and gearbox feel good with no sloppy shifting or crunchy synchros. Recent complete suspension and brake refresh with adjustable rear spring plates for easy corner balancing and ride height adjustments. Additional recent service includes a new oil cooler, new batteries, a new alternator, and a rear main seal. This is one of the most dialed-in early 911s we have driven in recent memory -- the chassis feels fresh, light, and tight. It's a willing and rewarding car to drive spiritedly.
The 911E, with better performance than the base 911T but a wider power band than the high-strung 911S, was acclaimed from the very start as "The secret weapon of Zuffenhausen" -- after a few pulls in second and third gear through 5500 rpm, you will understand just why.
