1952 Jaguar XK120 OTS Roadster

Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1952 Jaguar XK120 OTS Roadster. This XK120 has been a long-term project for us that is now back on the road, mostly complete, and ready for your finishing touches. This is a numbers-matching example that was originally finished in black over red per the Heritage Trust Certificate. We found the car in Alabama in 2017; it had been off the road in storage since the early 1970s and the engine was seized -- however the car was complete, solid and mostly rust free.

What initially started as an engine rebuild project morphed into a seven-year, frame-off, nut-and-bolt mechanical restoration. The frame was stitch welded and powder coated then built back from the ground up with nearly every component attached to it being rebuilt or replaced, cleaned, and powder coated along the way. Rebuilt numbers-matching 3.4 liter with machine work by Coventry West (bored slightly over). Rebuilt transmission, rear end, driveshaft, all suspension components including adjustable front shocks and professionally rebuilt rear lever shocks, bushings, joints etc. Brakes, steering, carburetors, generator -- basically everything is new or rebuilt. New Vredestein Sprint Classics are mounted on factory disc wheels. Stainless sport exhaust. A new Moss wiring harness was installed and turn signals were integrated using the correct Lucas box. 12-volt electrical system with a lightweight Odyssey battery.

A green leather and Wilton wool interior from World Upholstery was installed -- we opted to have a matching hide sent and had custom low-back racing buckets upholstered to match; original seats are included. Speedometer and tach have been professionally rebuilt by a Smiths specialist. A genuine Moto-Lita steering wheel is fitted, original included. A bluetooth amplifier and two speakers are hidden under the dash.

All of the chrome was re-plated at great expense. After a struggle to get the body shop to start paint and body work -- and tiring of looking at the car in pieces -- we opted to reassemble leaving the paint and body in its pre-1970 paint with patina. Body rubbers and welts were replaced when reassembled along with floor boards. Items such as the transmission tunnel have been stripped and powder coated. We also opted to leave the front bumpers off for a sportier look but they are included with the sale. The convertible (hood) frame has been stripped and powder coated but never installed along with a brand new canvas top. We have the original side curtains but they are in poor condition.

We have been driving this XK for about a year now -- around town, with a few highway sprints and a few appearances at cars and coffee -- make sure to check out the driving video. It runs and drives well with a tight feel (as everything is new). It needs some light buttoning up to include some accessory wiring, some remaining interior bits and a few mechanical items (we have a list). This XK turns heads and garners questions whenever we drive it -- it's certainly a special car with all of the heavy lifting complete. Currently titled and registered in Georgia. Over $80,000 invested not including labor. Many spares and original parts are included along with stacks of receipts and restoration photos.
