1970 Mercedes-Benz 280SE Coupe

Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280SE Coupe. Under current ownership for nearly 20 years (since 2003), garaged and driven sparingly. Presented in the correct and very attractive original color of Mercedes Blue Metallic over cream interior. Paint, body, bumpers and trim show to a nice driver standard. Solid underside with no known rust. Steel wheels with original color-matched wheel covers in good condition. Tires have plenty of tread but are more than 20 years old.

Records indicate an interior refresh in the late 1990s; dash, wood trim, steering wheel, door panels, seat upholstery and headliner are all in good condition. Original Becker Europa and all gauges (with the exception of the fuel gauge) are working. Climate sliders are due for overhaul; A/C controls are working and the compressor turns on but the system has not been converted from R12 to R134 and is not blowing cold.

Data card confirms original numbers-matching 2.8 liter overhead cam inline six cylinder engine fed by Bosch mechanical fuel injection. Optioned with four-speed automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes (front disk), power windows and air conditioning. The engine saw a top end rebuild with complete valve job in 1998 only 2,000 kilometers ago. Extensive brake and suspension work was accomplished around the same time. This 280SE runs and drives well (power delivery is smooth throughout the rev range, the automatic transmission shifts normally, and the steering, suspension and brakes all feel very good).
