1960 Porsche 356B Cabriolet

Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1960 Porsche 356 B Cabriolet. Exquisitely finished in black over tan interior, this T5 B Cabriolet was produced in December 1959 and imported through Inter-Continental Motors in San Antonio, Texas. It spent most of its life in California until it was acquired by a Georgia Tech professor in 1997 who sold it to our client, the current owner, four years ago via the shop that maintained it.

Paint and body present to a show-quality standard -- this 356 scored 233.7 out of 235 points in a recent judged PCA concours event. A rare factory hard top (black, good condition, see photo) had been fitted for decades and is included with the sale -- but the car's current owner preferred the versatility of a convertible top, so he had a new folding frame and canvas top installed in 2019. Interior presents beautifully with leather seating surfaces, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, square-weave carpets, coco mats, excellent doors cards and dash, and a period Blaupunkt radio.

Per the included kardex, this 356 left the factory with engine number 601348 -- however, engine 601438 is currently installed. Either someone at the Porsche factory transcribed two digits when making the initial entry in 1959, or the engine was replaced at some point in the past (if so, this would have happened more than two decades ago as the current and previous owner have no knowledge of it).

The engine was rebuilt in 2018 approximately 500 miles ago; engines from this serial number range were all 60 hp "normal" units, but this particular engine was rebuilt to 75 hp "super" specifications. The bump in performance is appreciable. Service history dates to 1997, mostly by the same Atlanta-area Porsche specialist for both the current and former owner. Receipts over the last 24 years exceed $85,000 and document the engine rebuild, complete brake and suspension overhaul, paint, convertible top, interior, and more.

Unlike many 356s that look great but are garage queens that never get driven, this Porsche is well-sorted mechanically and among the best-driving examples in recent memory. If feels "dialed in" and is ready for touring with no excuses. For more information about this 1960 Porsche 356B Cabriolet for sale at Motorcar Studio in Atlanta, please call 404-692-5250.
