Dealer's Remarks:The Ford Model A deserves a special place in automotive history. After the phenomenal success of the Model T, other manufacturers caught up to Ford by the mid-1920s -- and by the late '20s the venerable old T was losing ground against more "modern" cars with "conveniences" such as electric starters and standardized driving controls. Henry Ford famously denounced electric starters as an unnecessary extravagance, but he wasn't blind to the market forces at work -- so Ford completely stopped production on the Model T to design, retool its factories, and start manufacturing the Model A. It was an overnight success, with more than a million units bought in the first three months alone. Nearly five million were sold from 1928 to 1932 (1931 was the last full year of production).
This 1931 Model A "Slant Window" Sedan has been thoroughly and thoughtfully restored to a high standard. The 160-A Slant Window has always been my favorite Model A -- I particularly like the all-steel construction, the six roll-down windows and the scrollwork on the door handles. From a design perspective, the '31 Slant Window nicely bridges the gap between a standard Model A and a '32 Vicky.
This example is finished in a very subtle two-tone grey with black fenders and running boards; it's an understated and elegant combination. Panels are straight and solid with good gaps; bumpers, trim, lenses and glass are excellent. The car has an awesome period-correct green mohair interior. The upholstery and door panels show well; the seats are in great shape although there is minor discoloration on the door panels (it actually looks more pronounced in the photos under studio lighting than it does in person). The carpet is very nice -- it's custom-made with bound edges. And of course all six roll-down windows work properly.
The car was also restored mechanically with major drivetrain components rebuilt or replaced -- the engine runs well, clutch and gearbox feel great and the steering and brakes function just as they should.
