Dealer's Remarks:The Ford F-Series didn?t become the best-selling pickup truck in America for nothing. Combining great styling with capable performance and dependability, the 1970s were, in my opinion, the heyday for American pickups trucks -- especially Ford. For those of you unfamiliar with the term, "bumpside" refers to the 5th generation Ford pickups that ran from 1967 to 1972 -- so named because of the convex body contour just below the truck's beltline. The 6th-gen trucks from 1973 to 1979 were known as "dentsides" because of the concave contour in the same spot.
There were over a million bumpsides produced, and tens -- if not hundreds -- of thousands remain on the road today -- truly a testament to being built Ford tough. Because they're so difficult to kill, these trucks are not especially rare -- but the vast majority you see are rusty, full of bondo, hacked up under the dash and under the hood, "updated" with questionable taste, etc.
This highly-optioned 1971 F100 Ranger XLT is a very correct restoration in fantastic colors. It has been recently repainted to a nice standard in its original two-tone green, Mallard and Boxwood. Panels are straight with good gaps; bumpers and some trim have been replaced, and what is original is still in good shape; glass and rubber are good. The bed has been professionally rhino-lined for durability. The interior has been nicely restored with period-correct materials; the door panels, upholstery, vinyl floor covering and dash are in great shape -- and even the original Philco AM radio still works.
Mechanically, this truck is very sound -- and easy to drive, too, thanks to a V8, automatic transmission, power steering and power brakes (with front disc). It's nicely detailed under the hood with a great stock look, and all systems are intact and working as Ford intended. The 390 ci V8 was completely rebuilt fewer than 1500 miles ago along with the C6 gearbox. Additional upgrades include electronic ignition, a rebuilt front end and new exhaust, carburetor, radiator, brakes and shocks.
The truck is, of course, very dry underneath thanks to the recent rebuild and we have a folder full of receipts documenting the work.
