Dealer's Remarks:Vintage Buick Roadmasters certainly live up to their name -- grand, comfortable, powerful, they're a graceful and commanding presence on the road. But few cars set my heart aflutter like this exquisite 1956 Roadmaster Convertible. It's a rare car with even rarer options. Fewer than 4,500 were built, and even fewer came equipped with factory a/c like this one. This example shipped with every option available in 1956: power steering, power brakes, power windows, automatic transmission, air conditioning, power seat, padded dash and a power convertible top.
Nearly all of our cars can claim to be head-turners, but this is one of the loveliest cars we've had the pleasure to know. She has been meticulously cared for and lovingly restored by a long-term owner, and we have over $40,000 in receipts over the last decade -- including a documented engine and transmission rebuild. And critics have taken note: the 2011, CHVA judged this car 197 out of 200, and she won first place at the 2011 BOPC show in Atlanta.
Paint and body are excellent, clad in gorgeous two-tone White and Harvest Yellow. Panels are straight with good gaps, and the finish quality of the paint is exceptional. Most of the chrome is either new or refinished, and the few remaining original pieces are in very good shape. The power convertible top has recently been fully restored, with a new premium vinyl top and window, a new well liner and a new boot cover. The hydraulic top system has been completely restored and works perfectly, and even the convertible top irons were re-chromed. Glass is excellent, and nearly all of the weatherstripping, seals and rubber have been replaced. The car has not been driven in the rain (or even on damp roads) in decades; the floor pans and underside are in excellent condition. This car's owners have clearly taken care to keep it correct and unmolested, and that continues with period-appropriate wide whitewall Coker radials. Even the headlights are correct T3 bulbs.
Mechanically, this is one of the soundest Roadmasters on the market. The original 322 cubic-inch "Nailhead" V8 was rebuilt professionally in 2006 and has only been driven 500 miles since. These early Nailheads are expensive to restore, and the rebuild included all new bearings, pistons, seals and gaskets -- plus a valve job on the heads. The harmonic balancer, flywheel, distributor and motor mounts were also replaced. The cooling system has been fully restored, with a new water pump and a re-cored radiator. The fuel system is in great shape, thanks to a steam-cleaned gas tank, new fuel level sending unit, new fuel lines and fuel pump and rebuilt carburetor. Starting, charging and electrical systems are also in tip-top shape, with a new starter, new generator and new voltage regulator -- and all lights and indicators work perfectly. The brake system was completely refurbished, with a new master cylinder, new power brake booster, new wheel cylinders, new brake shoes and even new brake drums at all four corners. Steering and suspension systems work perfectly, with a rebuilt steering gear and power steering pump, new upper and lower control arms, new shocks and new wheel bearings. The DynaFlow transmission was rebuilt when the engine was rebuilt, and the torque ball and transmission mounts were replaced at the same time. The correct vacuum wipers have been restored and work perfectly, and even the windshield washer unit has been restored. The factory a/c system has new hoses, a new drier, has been recently serviced and works property. And finally, the exhaust is all new with aluminized steel components.
This Buick's interior looks incredible, as well. The dash is perfect, and the instrument cluster was completely refurbished. Even the clock has been converted to quartz movement, and the original radio still works fine. All gauges, indicators and switches work perfectly. The steering wheel has been restored, as well, to like-new condition. The power seat motor and both power window motors have been rebuilt. The upholstery is a tasteful two-tone cream and off white that looks great with the soft yellow exterior.
It's rare that cars this sound both mechanically and cosmetically come on the market. For more information on this truly spectacular, well-documented, show-winning '55 Buick Roadmaster Convertible, please give us a call at 404-692-5250.
